Action Words Literacy Workshops are currently being held in the North East of England. Please see below for details.

Action Words Literacy Workshop

9.00 am – 3.15 pm

 A day of practical and motivating workshops, suitable for KS1/SEN teachers and teaching assistants, focussing on:

  • ·         fun games and activities to get children reading, writing, and speaking and listening

  • ·         integrating hfw and phonics

Every delegate receives a Goody Bag with ready made Action Words resources, enabling them to start using Action Words straight away.

            How the brain reads

A very brief overview of how the brain learns to read

How Action Words works

The Action Words method supports the latest in brain research – that a kinaesthetic approach enhances the learning process.

Developing a sight vocabulary using the Action Words method

Your chance to try out many of the new games designed to teach high frequency words.

Session 2 10.45 – 12.30

Using phrases to develop comprehension, and speaking & listening skills

The games in this session use Action Words and cvc words. The focus is on making phrases, reading phrases and extending them verbally.

Session 3 1.15 – 2.30

            How to teach writing and spelling through games

These activities also use Action Words and cvc words. We begin with games to teach individual words and then move on to games which encourage fast writing.

Session 4 2.45 – 3.15

             Grand Finale with prizes!

Marie is a Lead Consultant for Communication, Language and Literacy Development and a Primary Strategy Consultant. She is also an Independent Consultant and Reading Recovery teacher. In 2004 Marie launched Action Words into every school in her LA and is a firm believer in the methodology of the scheme.
